VINTAGE at GOODWOOD

The inaugural event; a celebration of five decades of British cool, the 40’s through to the 80’s was a collaboration of Wayne and Gerardine Hemingway and the Earl of March.

The setting was the beautiful surroundings of the South Downs and the festival elegantly designed with an unsurpassed attention to detail, with a vintage high street that MGM Studios would have been proud of, the Tanqueray cocktail bar, Veuve Clicquot enclosure and brilliant period arenas such as the 70s Soul Casino and 80s Warehouse awaited us.

Upon arrival we were amazed to see the fashions of a bygone era so superbly executed. Everyone attending the event had a passion for design, music and fashion, this was immediately apparent. Walking along the red carpet the anticipation of what awaited was getting more intense. No one was aware of what lied ahead, this event was the first of its kind.

Great for people watching, a relaxed experience, an absolute delight, the new festival of Britain.

There was so much to see and do that a day was not sufficient, next year ‘glamping’ may be required!

Bent {Kevin Scott}

Posted in Bicycles, Concept Design, Kevin Scott, Product Design on July 12, 2010 by NumberSeventySix

The bendy-framed bike was created by Kevin Scott, a final-year Product Design student at DeMontfort University in Leicester.

Where an ordinary bicycle’s frame would have the crossbar and down-tube, Mr Scott’s design has two segmented tubes, containing a cable. When the cable is tightened, using a ratchet device below the saddle, the frame is rigid and can be cycled.

However, when the bike is parked, the cable can be loosened, allowing the segments of the tube to separate and the frame to be bent through up to 180°.

This would let it be wrapped around a lamp-post and the two wheels to be locked together with an ordinary D-lock without removing them. It is both more secure and less space-consuming than locking an ordinary bike to a post by the frame.

The design won Mr Scott a runners-up award at the Business Design Centre New Designer of the Year Award and a cheque for £500.
